Al

Al designs all of ADDW's watches. Each design connects to a personal story or experience of which many people will have their own version. ADDW's designs are intended to start conversations by highlighting the things that bring us joy, and this page has an explanation of Al's thoughts behind each design. Additionally, each design has a waitlist that will be used to gauge interest, so please consider signing up. Eventually, we hope to produce a new design every 6 to 8 months.

Origin Stories

TimePeace

I began college the September after the pandemic began, and I had the option to live on campus even though classes were primarily online. I was grateful for the option, but growing up, it would've been a hike to ask a neighbor for a cup of sugar. It was difficult to go from that to being stuck in a dorm surrounded by people, and I began searching for moments of peace.

I found that at a small fishpond on campus. The fish brought me so much joy, and I tried to find ways to bring that joy with me. One method was naming all of the fish in the pond. The other was designing this watch.

Quest

As a child, I was a bookworm. I spent more time reading than anything else, and I desperately wanted to go on a fantastic adventure. However, as an incorrigible homebody, my resolution for my childlike wishing isn't travel, but this watch. An homage to medieval fantasy novels, Quest reconciles a childlike desire to adventure with an adult desire to not be late for work.

OverLords

I have always been a cat person in denial-- I claim no preference, but the truth comes out when someone is misbehaving. A cat being a destructive jerk is adorable, a dog making a mess is in trouble. My cats rule my household, and the sole purpose of the internet is to worship cats, so this watch is my offering to our adorable OverLords. Plus, few things make me as happy as my cats, and I'd like to be able to bring that happiness with me.

FairyLand

I spent years looking for an entrance to the fairy lands, and keeping an eye out for any fairy stumps or circles. Even now, my favorite places to hike are the ones that have landscapes worthy of the fairies, with soft grass, mushrooms, and dewdrops for sipping.  FairyLand captures the playful peace of a fairy garden party, and allows a peek of the magic that's just out of reach for us humans.

ParkDay

There is a picture of my little sister running with a kite when she was around three years old. She's always been the wild child, but so incredibly joyful, and the picture so perfectly captured her constant motion and endless energy. That time of my life that seems so far away now-- my sister is a teen (and acts like it!) and I don't live at home anymore. But I'll never forget when my dad went through that kite phase, and got us both on board with him. He must have spent most of his time helping us get our kites in the air, and which was also metaphorically true for my entire childhood. For that reason, ParkDay is intended to be an appreciation of childhood and family, and the moments that we don't always appreciate enough at the time.

DogWalk

Dogs have such an infectious joy, and walking through nature with dogs is a completely different experience than walking alone. My family calls taking a walk with the dogs a "dog-walk" because otherwise it might sound like a normal walk, just with dogs. Because if you're hoping for a quiet, peaceful walk, you better not be bringing my labradors. But if you want to experience the unbridled joy and excitement of chasing squirrels and careening through puddles, there's no better way than by taking a dog-walk. My hope is that DogWalk will remind the wearer to try to have a dog-like joy and appreciation for every happy moment, and every slow squirrel.
